Down at the Old Bull and Bush

Although I don't hate Georgie Bush
I'll be glad when he's given the push
Though he stumbles and lies
I'd be wrong to despise
A man who's so obviously louche.

For Bush has the Lord on his side
That's a fact that cannot be denied
He prays every night
That his soul remains white -
While the ghosts of the soldier's who've died,

In the ill-fated war in Iraq;
Point fingers of scorn at his back
They know only too well,
George is going to hell
For the heart of this "Christian"'s stained black

With the blood of his numerous sins.
On the day when the Judgement begins
That's when Georgie will go
To that hot place below
Where the devil will stick him with pins.

What would I have performed differently
In the self-same position as he?
Well, since I don't aspire
To be tyrant, or liar
I don't know what my answer would be...

Author notes

As for writing erudite essays, I'd prefer to stick to "What I did on my Holidays." I'll manage without a trophy.

Your poem is really quite gem-ish
But it has one terrible blemish
You didn't say what to do
Now we're all in the stew.

If I knew how to set things aright
And pull us all out of the shite
      I'd no' be sitting here
      Writing twaddle, no fear
      But I don't, and I can't, so goodnight!

Very witty poem, Keith. However, the last line about aspiring to be a "tyrant" or "liar" doesn't really apply, though, since I asked what you would do if YOU were president, not "What would you do if you were Bush?"

By your author comment, it appears you traded a chance at winning the contest for the fun of using that line. One thing's for sure - you express yourself well. Thanks for the entry.

I wasn't really thinking of myself becoming Bush in the last lines: merely of the fact that becoming President, or any world leader, seems these days to involve a fair amount of tyrrany and deception. You might start out with the intention of being Mr. Niceguy, but world affairs these days seem to twist the most potentially benevolent personality into deceit and double dealing. Look at our Tony Blair as an example. And our present PM, Gordon Brown, is so lacking in charisma that nobody has any time for him at all. He probably hasn't even been heard of in America. But if Gordy was to start being a bit more of an evil tyrant, I'm sure his reputation would travel the world.
The pleasanter American presidents were mostly assassinated, weren't they? I think, on the whole, my chances of being a world leader are probably about as remote as winning the lottery. And if by any chance the job were to fall vacant, I don't think I'd be up to it anyway.
O dear, I've gone and written an essay....

    Ha ha ha!

LMAO!! This was very entertaining my friend.
I love the way you expressed your disdain
for an insensitive asshole who has no regard
for anyone but himself. Thanks for the laugh.
    Bravo!!
