Suffered cold indifference
I’m born unto this world.
Lessons to be learned
ingrained with life’s first breath.
Shock, then joy
with the affectionate love
of mothers first embrace.
A second place sensation.
Would I have appreciated
mothers loving touch
without cold air affronting me
amidst the suffering of birth?
Skinned knees and birthdays.
First kisses and teenage brawls.
Lessons of pain and pleasure
experienced throughout my life.
These things when mixed,
with blood, sweat and tears
is the mortar between,
building blocks, of character.
The essence of my being.
The sum of life itself
would cease to exist
if not for suffering and joy.
I’m born unto this world.
Lessons to be learned
ingrained with life’s first breath.
Shock, then joy
with the affectionate love
of mothers first embrace.
A second place sensation.
Would I have appreciated
mothers loving touch
without cold air affronting me
amidst the suffering of birth?
Skinned knees and birthdays.
First kisses and teenage brawls.
Lessons of pain and pleasure
experienced throughout my life.
These things when mixed,
with blood, sweat and tears
is the mortar between,
building blocks, of character.
The essence of my being.
The sum of life itself
would cease to exist
if not for suffering and joy.
