David

After our first
conversational
one-night stand
you left me
craving

more

coming back for
hit
after
hit,
on career day,
in the library,
during my normal
me-time sessions.

We talked about
parents,
family,
Cecelia and Chad,
somehow it didn't matter
what our topic was,
our opinions
warring,
blending,
both coming out changed.

It got so hard
to write in your yearbook,
not because
we weren't friends,
but because words
don't rightly define you
to me.

I didn't love you
with the faithful,
deep-running love for Chad,
or the familiar,
dear-friend love for Pj,
not even the jokey,
defensive love for Cody.

You are something new,
more than a friend,
but not quite a best friend.

My adventure partner,
you kept me running
despite my disability,
kept me entertained
with magic tricks and
honest opinions,
kept me in wonder,
with your heart-rending moments
amidst your
smiles and
laughs.

You made crossing the road to Wal-Mart
into an escapade,
made our time there
worthwhile,
and wherever you go
with that easygoing smile,
may life treat you good
and bring you back to me
soon.

Author notes

I guess this is a sort of farewell to David, one of the people from BMA that I'll probably never see again....graduation is so bittersweet.
