she sings in cadmium,
dances in old gold light,
a saffron sprite, although
she cannot walk well
in her withered cantaloupe flesh
where bones curl like old carrots
her fall, as round as pumpkin,
became the winter, rusted,
with leaked carotene
that stains her skin an ocher ache
to be, once again,
the apricot in first bud,
the peach filling with nectar
she is a tipsy tango of tangerine
in her aging, growing sweeter
as she shrinks to hard nut life
after such Poppy pulses

This is beautiful, Carol and I can see why it won the Gold in this contest
A superb write, eloquently spoken, a tribute to growing old. (at least that's what it brought to me) The metaphor in this piece is awesome. I was especially touched by the first stanza. A very impressive poem
