The bookshelf stands and looks at me
All haughty and aloof'
It towers right above me
Close up to the roof.
It contains a lot of knowledge
For leisure,work or play,
Geography-new cultures,
History-far off days.
There's music tapes and ornaments,
Sports trophies and the like,
Model cars and trucks are there,
Plus one real tiny bike.
I like to have the bookshelf there,
Some things I do not know;
I get a book and check it
So my ignorance won't show.
How many writers have books to read and research?

What a cute little one this is to. My bookshelf isn't that big but it holds approximately 10 dictionaries and thesaurus, my main reading material next to my animals and war books. This was great and being such an early one, it showed me the talent that has been with you forever.

Sadly, that bookshelf is no more. Too many books for it now and many of the ornaments are packed away in boxes. Time marches on and I seem to be able to find books at garage sales, second hand places and clearing sales to continually add to the store of stuff in the house. There now 4 bookshelves and still not quite enough space available. Thank you for taking the time to go back among my earlier writes, it is most gratifying to me as a writer.

Great stuff
Love it well written and the ending great. I've got three little shelves above my fish tanks, witch house a transport,a trophy, and a motor cycle.

Thank you for your comment. I have always been a reader and over time have collected a lot of books, Most that we keep now are reference material or wildlife with a number of classical novels that have appealed to us. They all help with the writing.
Cheers.

I cannot part with my books ...
they are my friends. Cliché I know, but very true. I loved your poem; you sound like a bibliophile!

To Myrataal, Firstly, I apologise for not replying sooner. Like you, I love books, all kinds of books. Sadly I have been forced to give quite a number away when I moved because of the packing and freight costs. I still have a lot of books and the number keeps growing. Thank you for your comments and I apologise again for not keeping up with my page very well.
Cheers and best wishes.

How wonderful.. I'd love to have a bookshelf, yet do any research on the internet.. I guess it's kinda made the bookshelf redundant, which is such a shame cause it's always great to see one in someone's home..

Thank you Jackie. My bookshelves {plural since the move} are a big part of both my life and Lis's. When you are writing on the computer and want to check something it is quite often more satisfying to look it up and continue without going to Britannica or Wikepedia. Sometimes we just want to read something, or get inspiration. Books are a must in our house. Besides, have you ever heard of anyone going to sleep on the lounge with a laptop over their chest? Cheers.

Books
One thing I do admire is a person that reads. And the picture your paint is so enlightening. I do not have a bookshelf so tospeak... But many fine books decorate my apartment. Read on poet

Bob, Lis and I are both readers from way back. It;s the only way I know that you can travel the world and visit all manner of cultures without getting up from your favourite chair. The bookshelf in the poem no longer exists but the three that replace it still have a mixture of things displayed on them. Some books are purely temporary and are for light entertainment, others are almost collector's items and everything in between. We have more space now and the writing books are in the computer room. Its one of the busy rooms in the house. Note; there is just two of us in a four bedroom house with about one and a half acres of ground around. Cheersmy friend.
