the heat of potting soil
straight through my gloves

what i like about line 1 is that it enhances the phrase for me .... that its early morning one imagines coolness which you then juxtapose against the heat through gloves ...
early (morning) implies spring too set against potting soil increases the feeling of spring for me ...
and the whole as an observation is a universal truth ... nice nice nice >>> Gina -
Oh yes!
Simple and real, more especially as I have been doing just that this day, and no better time than early morning. For once a winner I approve of, in my rather snooty way.

A very good haiku about working in the garden in the early morning. I like the thoughts of the warmth of the potting soil, felt through the garden gloves. Thank you so much.

interesting
this is an interesting haiku.
lines two and three are particularly good as they convey vivid imagery as well as the sense of touch. i love this kind of mixing of the senses in haiku.
the haiku works well. the first line is ok, although i suspect it could be even better, especially if it could portray an image which juxtaposes with the other lines.
best of wishes in the contest,
myron.
