rust never sleeps

poppies
are bright this year
and live in tommorow's battle
with a discipline of blind

marching along the wait
of counting days
drying flesh and blood
are mere servants
of the wrong king

they pay us not to think
and fortune tellers are
insignificant
in jungles of rot,
ruin,
  & resolution

mercy is an oath
sworn by dead men
with lips of dust
in their rusting shells

and now
memories
of the color orange
are no longer

      beautiful

Now THIS is stepping out of the box!! This one packs such an emotional impact. What a tremendous tribute to those who "never saw it coming." The imagery in this is vivid, yet sets its deep roots right into our souls. The language is superb, as is the use of poetic device. I am left filled with awe. Thanks for this excellent addition, and Good Luck!!

A brilliant piece, yet stark and sad in it's poetic beauty. Are we really so ignorant as a race that we'll someday lie in these piles of rust and ruin? I think we perhaps are destined to such a fate.

A very timely and provacative piece.

    Good luck in the contest

    Dee

Stark and beautiful yet painfully poetic. Your words have a strong sense of direction. The statement is bold.

A good piece for the world as it is at the moment. How sad that we always seem to be in war or heading towards one. It never does end. I think that's what really took my attention in this. The irony of the situation. That war has nothing to do with whose right or whose wrong or even which side should win.

It's all a game on a chess board and you have to hope that you're king is the better player. I like the way you caress the word orange in this. It works.

Richard . . . I'll tell you what I think . . . I think it is a bloody brilliant statement about the tragedy of our species being blind to the evils, the tragic loss of innocence and faith in political leaders . . . Keep putting the message out poet, because obviously, not enough are listening.
