Moon, Wind and Summer at Milford, (A Non-Entry.)
How still and softly silent, moonlight sleeps
between those rugged mountains’ sombre shade,
illuming ripples wanton breezes laid
aslant its silver pathway o’er the deeps.
Unmoved by wind or breeze, the moon’s face gleams
uninterrupted while she is allowed -
her beams unbroken till some drifting cloud
obscures her lunar light and smothers dreams.
On such a summer night in Milford Sound,
our boat adrift we dreamed, my love and I,
bathed in the moonlight, gazing at the sky,
by age-old mountains girded all around.
Surrounded by such majesty, man’s dreams
and man himself quite unimportant seems.

A beautiful and reminiscent poem, Hugh. You make this place seem magical. And I love the picture posted with it. Is this a real place from your youth?
