Your Eyes

All the words you've said to me
in anger or sadness
and all the pain I've felt
inevitable in love
could never equal
the sorrow in your eyes
that day
and the devastation
it caused to my soul.

Now, years later,
it is still not attention
that makes me love
to see you smile
and laugh,
but redemption.

    WOW...

This is deep... as in, "staring straight into the heart of pain" deep.

Is this what men really feel like when they hurt the one they love? At least, this is my mental understanding of this piece. I can just see a boyfriend, doing his best to cheer is girlfriend, with an eternal apology in his eyes.

    I love this.

I have to be careful what I show my wife. Low poetry tolerance. but she will see this...

It's been some time since I've visited your page and without disappointment.
Redemption, that word--the way you used it, made this whole poem wonderful!

Mmmm. I like it, although I find it different (alot) from your other writing, nothing wrong with different, I know that for sure, just...lets see..heck I don't know, I love it though. Is it something you just wrote or is their a story behind it, if you don't mind me asking. I know you love writing stories, or what some would call "LONG POEMS", I'm not not the to long list, but well I guess I'll just look at it as a long beautiful, mixed with some sadness, as well as other emotions and just made it short and sweet, straight to the point. Correct me please if I'm reading it wrong or just not reading it correctly, because I've have been going through changes the last month or so. But with all said and done I still love when I see New by your Favorites on my homepage. Hope you're doing well and enjoyed the words. Tonya L. Turner (Destiny Fate

Excellent, Mark! To me, when one is loved - and fails to deserve it - yet is accepted anew for a reason one cannot guess that one discovers true love. Seems you've found it. I pray it will happen for me. I am hoping 38 is not too old! Yours - the Ocer

38?!?! I was 43 when I married Claudia. It's never too late for love or anything else. Life does not give up on people. People give up on life. Go find her, my friend.

Well, I just meant that your meaning was clear about being held together by redemption etc, I just find that people who write five line poems are usually clearer but I found this to be as clear at that. Sorry for the confusion, I guess I should have said how much I like this poem.

  • love it... very deep

Such simplicity is usually only present in short pieces.

    Breathtakingly beautiful!

This is so poetic and loving in the most authentic fashion. Forgiveness comes from a place of fearless love and trust and one of the most powerful aspects of a loving relationship. This is such a beautiful tribute to you and your beloved. Bravo Mark!

Mistakes happen... its what we do with them that counts. Sounds to me like redemption was given. =)

I love the descriptions of remorse and redemption. A nice pair to have in a poem (:
Although it's a little strange to read a poem like this and see a picture of Fonzie by it

We all hurt the ones we love the most, we are human. If you were to count the smiles you have placed on her face against the frowns, I bet the happiness would heavily outweigh the sadness.
Lovely poem of hope and forgiveness.
    blessings,
    Michelle

by the way, you have an uncanny resemblence to the Fonze. lol

"You always hurt the one you love, the one you wouldn't hurt at all." Connie Francis, come back you slag, all is forgiven!!!!!!!!!!! I liked this poem except for the last stanza which was a bit puky. Would you like me to dedicate a poem to you? I am sure one of my relatives died a horrid death near your home and I would love to write a poem about her doom just for you................................

You promised to write that poem ages ago, Barry. I'll be looking forward to it. Sorry about the "puky" stanza. I'm a sentimental cuss. What can I say? lol

This is beautiful, So many poems make me wish to find out the story behind it, I guess that separates a good poem (that was nice) from a fantastic poem (Oh I would love to know how that come about)

Only the truly remorseful can earn & understand redemption, my dear Friend. Only the truly blessed can grant it with a silent glance. I know you deserve forgiveness, even if you don't think so. 'Cause I know the vibrant shades & shadows of your heart...& so does she, only more so. Just keep on trying to "make up for it", Sweetie...although you undoubtedly sprouted wings a long time ago. Amazing how we can feel the pain of someone we love. You wrote with intensity and with emotions in over drive.
    Well done.
