I.
Flick of wrist, hand-held puncture sharp pencil,
crunch of tiny bones in shark jaws,
grind of blood boiling in its bully-bellied cell,
eel slithering for its charge,
ocean grinding at shore,
sewer seeping into a bowl-blue lake ~
that kind of hate.
II.
Daughter digging at her arm
where it will not show so easily,
boy sticking a gun to his father’s head
for saying “No” to his societal-spoiled son;
and the gun goes off,
and the neighbors say such nice things
to the photographers that sell such gore
for such fine folds of greed,
a mother has to choose where to put
that kind of hate.
III.
This house, this heart, brewing like yeast
for another damn batch of bread,
this toilet scrub-brush scrubbing at shit
clinging to the bowl,
this rumpled bed of broken dreams,
this burnt offering of a woman
pressing arrows onto your whitest tight shirt
that you will wear to your billion-dollar job
where you work with young girls
pimping their computer skills
in clothes so scant that they show naval lint pickers
of plastic surgeon scripts
as evidence of their abhorrence for their own skin ~
that kind of hate.
IV.
A smile on a face with target-eyes,
a hello from ground-down teeth,
a leap from high cliffs as escape,
held-breath although she can half-swim
yet deferring to sink like stone ~
that kind of hate.
V.
Oh save me, save me,
throw me on my knees and cave me in,
keep me floating,
wrench me from these sharpnesses,
and keep me from
that kind of hate

I find it rather ironic that you would write of such hate, Carol ~ being the life~giving, soul~sharing, love~learning person that I know you to be. Ahhh, but who else to teach us but the teacher herself? Another incredibly wise, inevitably deep, infinitely affirming piece, my dear Friend. Thank you for entering my contest. Good luck, Sweetie.

Ah, but I worry about such things as pollution, our kids, our young women and wives who can't, or won't compete in such boyish games, and those who would leap to their death rather than crawl up and liv...oh yes, save me from that kidn of hate.
ty gf...it must be said

YES, doll. Nasty but necessary. Gosh you really know how to stir us. . . something 'bout a scrub brush in a toilet bowl.
Seriously, Carol. This is so important. If we could each just decide for ourselves, you know. Make a commitment to rise above those parts of ourselves that can harbor hate if we are not careful to regularly shine the light and seek it out. Your voice is still singing here, my friend, and hopefully this one is a durge. Amazing, as always.

ty, pen friend....to awknowledge that an emotion is there means merely to see it for what it really is. I am blogging a great deal on authenticity of The Heart of the Soul...and such thoughts of these arise...yes, save us from that inside that would love to harbor such.

Authenticity--a mountain few choose to climb,at least past not past the foothills, but the peaks of which allow for such an improved panorama.
