The Abra Cadavers

Now you see them, then you don't.
First you believe him, then you won't.
A vanishing act is the typical charade of the show --
the parrots can't repeat what they don't know.

A slide of the hand, a tip of the hat,
it's chivalrous to bury them while they're young.
A card trick - the sickest twist -
there's no doubt that he is the master of diversion.

There are four million tricks up Headless Houdini's sleeve
Sound the trumpets for the master illusionist --
He never hesitates to please.
For his next trick, he will turn the audience into a pacifist.

Because there are bodies piled thin,
crushing waif-like paper limbs.
In the backyard swallowed breaths,
never lose the air of death.

Headless Houdini, the master escapist,
tangled in knots and knots of the lies he casts.
He wiggles his gloved fingers, the master escapist,
and vanishes it to a yellow submarine in the sea.

The trigger finger itches in the solitary street,
Colored scarves tied around their bleeding callused feet.
The odds are sixteen to one that you won't discover this parade,
because the body count is covered with a smoke grenade.

The Abra Cadavers lie dead in a solitude hat,
The black hole they are never pulled out of.
And we're all basket cases to believe our eyes,
that the Abra Cadavers levitate into the sun.

OPTION 3

Most challenging option, as usual is the word bank, choose a word combination. Example, if you use word bank A, you have to use all the words in that letter. Use them in any tense you like as long as the root word is there.
(If you like challenges, this option is for you, it's evil I tell you!)
A. SUBMARINE, TRUMPET, SOLITUDE, BASKET, TRIGGER

About This Piece: A while back I stumbled on an article published by the Chicago Tribune about what they penned 'The Invisible War' in Congo.  Because of the overwhelming concern for Darfur (which is very much called for) the tragedies going on in Congo are simply a 'vanishing act' to our nation's foreign policy's agenda. This is my first real attempt at a political piece, but it is something I am passionate about, and if you are interested in reading more, I included the link before to the aforementioned piece. Thanks, Shelley

And now the last poem to view and comment on before I judge the contest! It's cliche but as always, it ends with a bang-bang-bang. Good poem, flawless and a fun read.

I wish you good luck in the contest!

and I wonder if you might consider donating it to be used on my website against genocide, Voices For Africa?
