They ride the train to nowhere.
Tracks fading into oblivion
As the iron horse of yesteryear
Finishes its final curtain call.
Darker blue costume
Contrasts against sky blue,
The yellow stripe a solid arrow
Pointing to nowhere.
History fading into darkened pages
Exploration of untapped lands
Its crowning achievements
Disappearing like the tracks
That go no further
Than the brush of lonesome plains.

this is so sad, and heartbreakingly true....history is truly fading with the encroachment of urban society on the country...
I love your reference to the counrty as, like, a final frontier...truly metaphorical and emotive....
sad acceptance of the inevitable just cries from this piece....it made me so sad..(but in a good way, of course)
I LOVE: "history fading into darkened pages"...its so visual... like its so long since past, that you have to read about it in a text book.
well penned.
thanks for entering...& g'luck! -
Sad but true... a wonderful memorial to a way of life that's disappearing... Well done.
