If Mother Nature had a son,
and gave him pens to play,
perhaps this was a bit of fun
that he contrived one day.
This pretty bird's front, head and back
are each a different hue!
But Sonny Nature had no black,
just yellow, red, and blue.

What a delightful and clever way to describe this bird. This is one of those poems that any age will love. Congratulations on your win, Margaret. Patricia

What a clever idea about this bird. It is truely as if God decided to give a child a coloring book page and say....go ahead, you can do this one. Well done, poet.
Another name for this bird is the nonpareil....meaning like no other. I only saw this bird one time when I was living in Texas. I took a trip to Padre Island and I was so lucky to see this bird sitting atop of the treetops singing just for me.
Male Painted Buntings are highly territorial and aggressive toward each other. Fights between males, which include pecking, beating with wings, and grappling, sometimes result in death.
Thank you again.
Cheryl

When I was a child and let my imagination fly, I often coloured birds in this fantastic way. It was a delight to find he exists!
Thank you for a fun contest and the silver. I'm happy you had a good trip.

I am too tired to be a sleuth
for birds of the North!
However, your bird # 26 is a handsome male, I'd guess.
I think he is ROYGBIV except indigo and violet. A spectral fellow!
Thank you for your playful attack or approach. Sonny Nature! Ron.

This piece reveals
your delightful imagination.
And the perfect touch,
naming the little guy
"Sonny Nature."
Perfect!

I had the devil of a search
To find this little fellow
A-seated there upon his perch
In red and blue and yellow
He seems to wear some green also
And grey, and maybe pink
And that's as far as I can go
I've guessed it right, I think.
As usual, the little male
Has got the painted suit
I hope the female's not too pale
And thinks this fellow cute
I rather think that Scottish birds
Might kick him into touch
Accompanied by birdie words
Like "poppinjay!" (and such.)

Oh this was really cute! Your rythm and flow were perfection, as always, and it has wonderful imagery.
This was a real pleasure to read.

hahaha, "sonny nature", how cute ...
I love it when you are in a playful mood and it radiates out through your poetry ...
garuda, standing on one leg on the rose-quartz-lamp next to the puter, is just throwing me a weird look, saying : "but he DID have a black pencil, since he has painted me a tie and a cap !"
I shall explain her that it's just a poem, and that in poetry it's allowed to use our fantasy ...
maybe, she's a bit jealous of the rainbow-birdie, especially since I researched on the internet today how to adopt one ... now, she's hopping on my head, somehow telling me that we don't need another birdie here ... okay, garuda, it's a deal ...
wishing you all the best, my sweet sister,
big huggies,

marion

Perhaps Garuda would be comforted by the idea that she got all the black colour and there was none left for this poor rainbow bird. She is perfect the way she is.
Thank you for your comment, sweetheart.
