Cake

Smell the rich and savory scent
as I contemplate with greed.
You're a recipe so golden,
and you're all I'll ever need.

Heat the room with blazing lust;
Time to bake the scrumptious tart.
You are now the biggest sweet
that I have craved in all my heart.

Add some frosting to the bliss;
Count the layers that we make.
It's the things we do so well
that put the icing on the cake.

Pour the sprinkles on the top;
Be a gift of worthy flaunt.
'Seems that all the world is hungry,
and you're all they'll ever want.

This dessert of fervid love --
May I sample the delight?
Let your flavor touch my lips
and give my mouth a single bite.

    I decorate and make wedding cakes as my on the side job. I'm hella good at it, but I hate cake. My boss never has to worry about me sneaking a bite though! That's why I get paid more. Everyone gets a few bucks shaved off for those few licks of frosting they sneak. Good poem. Cleverly done

    effective extended metaphor, great, unforced rhyme scheme. great ending.

    did find it a bit creepy, especially at the beginning. almost this greed, gluttony, or this ravenous hunger ready to devour every crumb of her (or him, i suppose, thugh i somehow envision a her). i don't know. found it almost sinister, a hint of menacing just beneath the icing and sprinkles. everyone else seems to find it cute and sweet though, so probably just me and my trust issues. but clever and well-written, in any case, nicely done.

    Sweetness!!!!

    I thought it was a cute and "sweet" poem. I like how you compared love to a layered cake. There are many things to compare love to, but I think in my readings, that the cake is by far the sweetest. Great read. -mandie-

    Hmm when I saw this poem was entitled "Cake" I expected a tribute to the heavenly thing.. but the way you coupled love and desire with cake was PERFECT because they're both so awesome. Your love of baked good came through.
    I really liked it - the sensuality you achieved with your words was great =)
