Farewell to a Dead Poet

we bid farewell to you, Neil
the Dead Poets Society candidates salute you
the first of our generation
to truly become a member of the club

you are now one of them
a young poet among the geniuses
of long gone eons

we will miss you
but we shall not grieve
for we know you are not gone forever
one day we will join you in eternity

and be immortal

Author notes

struggling with the story, still not sure what I think about it... at least I'm starting to feel some kind of compassion for Neil... yep, my favourite character.

Good one, really. Maybe it's a bit dangerous to pick Neil as your favorite, but this poem shows hope at the end which is good.
It is a sad story, yet fascinating. You know I love DPS.
I think this is only half of a poem about the story because you could replace the name Neil by any name and Dead Poets Society by anything else, too, so I see it as a poem about the end and a new start.
    Really good, thanks for sharing

Ah, this is a brilliantly penned poem to respond to the story of The Dead Poets' Society. Recognized it right away and it makes perfectly wonderful sense and is fine for analyzing and discussing. BRAVO!!
