Darkness Resides

Darkness resides in the depths of her eyes,
The windows to her soul.
Reflection of ones true self,
Open to those who dare.

Walk a mile in her shoes,
Just see if you survive.
Enter the labyrinth of her consciousness,
Follow through to the twisted core.

Walk along the shores of her tormented youth.
Swim through the ocean of heartache and deceit.
Her eyes open, but never really seeing.
Drowning in the maelstrom, deep where her darkness resides.

Back ground tainted by someone else's addiction.
Face bruised and body broken.
Chew her up and spit her out.
Raped of her being, left empty and alone.

Vacant and waiting for someone to fill her up.
Misplaced in her dysfunction.
Neither here nor there.
Present but just an illusion.

Functioning but never really alive.
Wishing she could take a pill and make it all go away.
Numb the pain and fade away.
Eyes open for the viewing.

So Peer deep into her hollow existence.
Witness the remanence of a battered life lived.
Only a shadow of yesterdays feelings,
Marred by her checkered past.

Author notes

Kind of a dark poem inspired by life events of someone who has been a huge part of my life. Witnessing most of what I have wrote about kinda of gave me the inspiration. Now that I live my life with no regrets of the past. Connection with the parts that we hide deep inside spilled on a page and off my mind.

what do you turely think of this poem? any suggestions ?
