Dogtags

The battle is raging,
A beast that never sleeps.
Thousands of pawns,
being played with by their puppeteers
As though they are pieces,
On a chess board.

So we send our guns
And we move our calvary
to sway the fight,
Perhaps in our favour.

Back on the home front,
Another conflict is brewing.
A families torment,
A country torn apart.

Hundreds of names read,
And nobody really cared.
Everybody was just searching,
For that one name,
That one name to scream out,
and echo among ears.

Too many people are waiting
For their freedom fighters.
A mother waits for her protector,
A sister waits for her guardian
And a son waits for his hero.

Letters in the mail,
Blacked out, no information given.
Everybody wants answers
to the questions never asked.
This letter will be his last,
Pen will never be put to paper again
and no memories will be shared.

The battle may be over for some
But the war is still raging
And all that can be remembered
Are the lives we lost along the way.

Author notes

This brought tears to my eyes....I am touch by this poem more than I ought to be. I think you have captured the pain and suffering of war. Bravo Well done.

    Thanks for the entry.

    Nicely Penned.
I like this poem quite a bit. Even if you didn't write a poem emphasizing violence and destruction, i think it's a good war poem. This is a well written peice, you should be happy with it.
Thank you for entering my contest.
