Two by Two

Two by two by
Even fours.
Never take
Just one
Step or
Just three
Terrifying sweets.
If it
Wasn't odd,
I would
Take just
One of your hands
In mine,
To let you know
That eventually
Everything will
Be alright.
But I know that
Just one
Tentative touch
Will mean
Those hours on hours
On hours
Of cleansing
Your perfect,
Symmetrical form.
And I
Just couldn't stand to
See you cry those
Beautiful, uneven
Tears.

Author notes

This is written about my best friend who has OCD, and although he tries not to let it take over his life, sometimes it can overwelm him. And I just wish I could help him, when he can't eat in front of anyone, or he has to disappear for hours to wash his hands, or when uneven numbers of sweets in a packet can cause him to have a complete breakdown. I can't even begin to imagine what he goes through.
This poem really isn't brilliant, but I really just wrote it to express my emotions rather than be a literary masterpiece
Also, I hope that the short lines aren't too annoying, but I tried to write it with either 2 or 4 lines, as those are the numbers that everything my friend does must fit with, but reading it back, its actually quite hard to read. So I apologise

The best thing about this poem, far beyond it's literary merit is that you wrote it for a friend and I think that was very nice of you. I've no idea what it might be like to have OCD but it must be not only hard for him but for his family and friends. I'm sure he'll appreciate these words too.
