Closin' my eyes, business suits disappear,
The honking melts away, Goodbye today,
Beads of sweat slidin' down my sun-kissed face,
And the yellow-painted asphalt is covered
By the familiar dirt road leadin' to the past.
The comforting crunch of dirt rocks beneath cowboy boots,
The sunrays dancin' on my warm face,
Down here in Texas, time ain't an issue,
Only sunrise and sunset matter,
And the time in between is carefree,
Time to spend enjoyin' tranquility,
Without a care in the world,
I'd trade everythin' I have
For another day in the country.
Gate door slams, dust in the air,
My eyes are opened to see skyscrapers high,
Spirits are shattered,
Men frantically racin' to sweat-smellin' taxis,
Day to day passes, little things go unnoticed.
I got all the money in the world,
Everything a guy could wish for,
Except my home,
My life,
My place of peace,
Oh what I wouldn't give to find myself
With my hat and my boots back on the
Dusty dirt road
To my past in the country, for
My future ain't anywhere near.
This just ain't me.
I gotta get outta here.

I like the way you take us back to that time and place, then bring us back again. Perfect cryin' song, full of regret
Congrats on your HM.

A touching point of view one I recognized early in my adult life. The sad thing about it all is that everyone is searching for that spot in the country.
Find it friend before Walmart puts up a superstore and pave the wheat field for a backup parking lot.
Thanks for your entry.

The contest is closed for judging which may take two or three days. My thanks each of you for your entry. Happy trails.
David Wrigh -
sounds like its time to go back
I know how you feel, I left my "home" over 30 years ago and still miss it - just not to the point of giving up everything - my everything ("home") is where my family is... just can't go back ...the past is only real once
-
I totally agree with Lauren. Can tell you're missing Texas. Great write once again.
