I squeal like a pig at times,
frightened by my own features
As the voices of hope fade into the night
A coward one may say,
as the town crier bellows...'It is he, the denier '
And I cringe in the shadows, Satan at my side
Once, all knowing, there was my God
My youthful imagination at stake
I denied him not
But as flowers withered and virgins left their mark,
this common man came undone,
as hell exposed itself
No longer do I lick the bowl of love deliciously,
for it has turned rancid in the face of reality
The lair, the charlatan and the preacher
All Gods children
And yet at my hours due, I shall evoke His name
And yet... Who is God?

This is really good, God is the almighty one, the man in the clouds has his kingdom there. You expressed yourself really good and I really liked it alot. Thank you for sharing

-
I forgot to clap.

I like the thought process here, it is a good piece. Easy to fall in and related to. Religion is such a personal search and most if not all of us have been there at some point. Nice job here.
-
I can't answer your question for I do not know who God is. No longer do I lick the bowl of love deliciously
for it has turned rancid in the face of reality
the liar, the charlatan and the preacher.
These three lines say a lot to me; life has left me with an open mind and lots of questions. -
Tis a wonderfully expressive and provoking piece of poetry.Truly I ingested this Delima and came out choking on the side of anxiety and fear.I would say someone knows if not me than you.I really loved this freewrite it's brilliantly written.

Who is god? That is a huge question. We do not know and maybe a question never bbe answered. That is just as it may be.

-
how true we forget our true reason for this journey as time passes until we are ready to return from this dream and awake to reality

-
I like this.
I really like this one, God is the great I Am which means he is who he is. The thing is people try to name God, in legend and the custom of the Indians to name something is to own it. We can not do that with him, but you certainly came in and wrote an insightful piece.

grrrreat question
grrrreat , expertly penned and powerful message here!I really enjoy the scenes both physically, emotionally and spiritually presented here. And WHO/WHAT/WHERE/WHEN/WHY is God? Bring it on!!! This is surely a winner! Best to you!

-
I wish I knew the answer to that Bob.. but you know my own crisis of faith...
It's amazing how our dreams can becom rancid in the face of the mass of wiles by other people!
Great write!!

God is pure unconditional love.
A love that can cry out forgive them for they know not what they do.
I do see truth in your poem- the world seems to be running over with glorfied pimps- preachers that prostute the gospel truth to these that do not love God. God is still being bought and sold to them that do not love him just like He was in the day that He was sold for 30 pieces of silver.
Despite all this I know there is a God- follow your heart bob.
P.S this poem should be a winner, if it doesn't win something then somebody somewhere needs to learn how to read poetry.
I wish you luck.

You ask the age-old question and evoke the fear lurking in all of us concerning final judgement, Bob.
The struggle between temptation and conscience is powerfully handled here.
Well done, my friend,
Bill

All the comments below say just what I feel-

God is Himself
he is spirited, spiritual and gives us hope when the faith is deminished,as we choose to look towards the spirits and Pray for our sins to be forgiven.Ileave my soul in his hands as I trust him to be there for me, thank you for this poem as i needed this side of good will
thank you and good wishes

This is so thought provoking. Yes as we travel through life so many influences are thrown at us. All of us do things we aren't proud of too. We certainly become jaded in many things. But I do think that as we turn away from God, as you say, eventually we turn back. Maybe because deep down we know he's still by our side,
loving the sinner but not the sin.
All the best with this.

I do hope you are right. For with the emergence of the secular progressives and the young Roberspiere like revoultionarys it is not the rich who will need a God but the poor and downtrodden that need a belief to hold onto

Good...everyone has different religions...But God is God...and the devil is the devil.

This is beautiful and very thought provoking.

Interesting, thought provoking
Some say the doubt's disappointing, but I say to question is to understand.
~ Grammatrain "Believe" (CD "Lonely House," 1995)
While there used to be a really good band called "Blind Faith," it's not recommended to enter faith blind, but to question and understand it! Interesting question, and I like how you word your comments. Well done!

Good question :::
"Who is God" -- well we can just read 'His Word' and go by that ~ God is Love. LOVE , prettypoetry

AWESOME!
I tuly love this poem. I love all poems that have to do with questioning God. Also, I love the imagery painted here as well.
"No longer do i lick the bowl of love deliciously,
for it has turned rancid in the face of reality
The lair, the charlatan and the preacher"
I love this stanza. Great job!

Wow. Well done Bob!!!

Your voice speaks loudly, my friend and aren't we so fortunate to have poetry to allow us to speak our mind?
Life is so difficult and it saddens me, this emotion I hear is your words, but as I promised, I am not running to hide
This is amazing poetry...
