I arrived in the Northern Territory
in a place known as Alice Springs,
on a hot sunny day in August
clad out in my water wings.
I was to take part in the boat race
held in famous Henley-on-Todd,
where in Blighty I’d been to Henley
but this was a little bit odd.
All set to show the locals
my unique nautical skills,
I proceeded to step in the boat
making ready for subsequent thrills.
Now someone should tell these Aussies
that a bottomless craft doesn’t float,
and launching into a dry river bed
is strictly not done in a boat!
I suppose in a town like Alice
being so far away from the shore,
they don’t know a lot about water
and what they should use a boat for.
The Henley-on-Todd regatta
is a waterless wonder no less,
I suppose that when they go fishing
they would only catch flounders, I guess!!
