They label it "Progress"

They say the first days are the worst.
You sit in silence in the corner
and nibble along edges,
smoothing out the corners
until there are none left.

Where to go to now?

You create more with less
            (pick
                          pick
                                      pick away)
and curl yourself into a ball so small
they'll kick you when you're on the ground -

they never thought you could still be human,
until they saw the puddle of putrid sweat
you fooled them into thinking were tears.

Author notes

Three emtions: hopelessness, pain, and satisfaction. An odd mix, I know. But if I had to choose one... confusion, perhaps?

Tell me if it's not what you were looking for, I'll delete it if it is.

About - as the title says - "progress". And how much it hurts. And how it's never easy as it seems. And how regression is just so much simpler.

Regression, progression, therapy session, omission... it's a "-sion" type of day...

This poem is, at the very least, quite interesting. I think that it was very clever of you to mix different emotions and I think that it helps with the overall effect the poem has. I liked it, so please don't delete it. You did a good job.

Hummm interesting poem. Yeah, kicking someone when they're down seems to be a favorite hobby for many people. So sad. Thanks for sharing.
