Her voice

She holds her pencil sideways and writes upwards from the page.
She sees her life in sounds she cannot hear.
Her words paint on the canvas like a play she wants to stage
From far away her voice sounds, oh so near.
While the music of emotion forms the soundtrack to her art
And the history she paints is far from mine.
She can make me see the motion in a house that stands apart
And then she shows me how the dark can shine.
For the colours of her writing are the flavours of a meal
Formed from foods I haven't tasted, never known.
So I cannot understand it, but for me each word is real,
And I never read her poetry alone.

This is a wonderful dedication and I always appreciate it when one poet can capture the essence of another so well. I'm not good at rhyme and meter at all, but I do know when rhyming falls good on the ear and the meter is consistent - as with this poem. Nicely done... I liked both voices here. Thank you for your entry.

    Boffo!

And good luck in the contest!

(Damn fine writers, the pair of them.)

  • good piece

I found this to very well done, the way you used your artful abilties to express what you see from someone else's work. It is a really good piece my friend and I respect the honesty you also expressed in it. Anyone would be lucky to have such a fan. I can see why you got a solver for it. Image and Visions

    excellent

NOT A WORD IS WASTED IN THIS PIECE.I ADMIRE WRITERS WHO CAN DISCIPLINE THEMSELVES USING ALTERNATE RHYMING SEQUENCES WITHOUTSOUNDING FORCED OR OBVIOUS.WISE WORDS CERTAINLY ARE A FORM OF SPIRITUAL FOOD.YOUR USE OF METAPHORS IS EXCELLENT.WHO IS THIS A TRIBUTE TO?

  • I am so happy my spotlighting of this poem was accepted, the imagery is so unusual and so uplifting, I can see Dalaney's poetry must affect you greatly. Your poem to her (I see from her Avatar that she is a she) is simply stunning. I have read some of her poetry and I start to see why.

Of all the poems to miss...

From the moment we met here online I knew you would become someone dear to me. Your natural enthusiasm for life and poetry is so contagious, and your heart surely beats for so many here. Your poetry means the world to me. I can always count on a smile, a laugh, or a sigh while reading your words because you put so much of yourself into them.

This poem will stay with me always. Like you and Shiloh Blue, I will keep Her Voice close. I feel your love and I am sending just as much back in return. Thank you.

    Love, Lane

Truly lovely rhyme and flow, as well as a beautiful tribute to her. Also an apt description of Delaney's poetry. I love the painting, stage and music in this. All very creative like her.

    ~ Joyce

PS. In the next to the last line: For better reading, I wonder if you need a COMMA behind "it."
