Slippery eucalyptus drips misty midnight dew.
Every night this haze veils the sky, hides our moon.
Waves crash below in thunders and hushes.
The searchlight obscured spins in vain.
No light to guide. The fog is too thick. Too low.
Some far distant buoy chimes twice a warning.
This heavy looming darkness pales me.
Such longing from afar makes me feel lost.
Lost. Lost like mist disappears through leaves.
I embrace the air before me, but it fades.
I long for daylight to burn away these clouds so low.
To get my bearings, my sense of direction back.
I long to be with you, my ship searches your shores.
This daze reminds me I am far distant, yet closing.
Though each day my roots grow a little deeper,
I lean your direction as if you are the sun.
You are the sun.

Title: Here I love you
Author: Pablo Neruda
Here I Love You
Here I love you.
In the dark pines the wind disentangles itself.
The moon glows like phosphorous on the vagrant waters.
Days, all one kind, go chasing each other.
The snow unfurls in dancing figures.
A silver gull slips down from the west.
Sometimes a sail. High, high stars.
Oh the black cross of a ship.
Alone.
Sometimes I get up early and even my soul is wet.
Far away the sea sounds and resounds.
This is a port.
Here I love you.
Here I love you and the horizon hides you in vain.
I love you still among these cold things.
Sometimes my kisses go on those heavy vessels
that cross the sea towards no arrival.
I see myself forgotten like those old anchors.
The piers sadden when the afternoon moors there.
My life grows tired, hungry to no purpose.
I love what I do not have. You are so far.
My loathing wrestles with the slow twilights.
But night comes and starts to sing to me.
The moon turns its clockwork dream.
The biggest stars look at me with your eyes.
And as I love you, the pines in the wind
want to sing your name with their leaves of wire.

The style here is just wonderful... You took the inspiration straight to heart; showing much of the actual thought in relevance to Neruda's own style. It is dreamy, and beautifully sullen. Great use of imagery and depth. Powerful and poignant! Excellent write!!!
Thank you for your entry & Best wishes in the contest!

I like this. The idea of searching for the love you long to be near. It seems to cut short a little bit at the end. There's a wonderful fluidness through out the piece, with GREAT imagery. I could see a lighthouse (or rather not see through the fog lol) The light itself trying to cut through the thick low clouds. I was really into it then... it ended hehe. I was like "Aw, I don't want it to be over yet." So, yeah I'd like to see this expanded so I can enjoy it longer. Because, it's VERY good and I wanted more!
