And, as usual, wondering where He went wrong,
When He had a crazy idea He named "The Internet"
And thought, "They should have had this all along!"
"I'll plant the idea in somebody's head down there
And when they can all finally talk with each other,
Endless fighting will be replaced by understanding
And every man will rush to the aid of his brother."
So He did just that, then went away for the weekend,
Which to Him is about twenty of our mortal years.
When He returned, he logged on, wildly curious,
But what He saw there nearly drove Him to tears.
His first stop was a very popular site called You Tube.
Everyone was fighting with everyone about everything.
"I can't believe it," He cried. "What's wrong with them?"
This isn't what I hoped my Internet would bring!"
He searched, still hoping, but found endless depravity.
There was a little good here and there but, all in all,
He felt that His gift had been hijacked by monsters
And had become only a sophisticated bathroom wall.
What He hoped would bring peace and prosperity
Had become an ungodly mess, vile and unkempt.
He thought, "I hoped it wasn't true of My children
But it seems familiarity really does breed contempt."
Author notes
This is meant to be funny. I'm not slamming God or blaming Him for mankind's foolishness.
While searching the internet for any association between God and the internet, I came across an odd article. You gotta see this . . .

Another funny article. God has computer problems, too!

...And had become only a sophisticated bathroom wall.....
It is ture in most ways Mark. I think the internet has done a lot of good, but I also think it has created evil that is unthinkable... like the mom who encouraged her preteen daughters to pose as a boy and make friends with a girl they wanted to humiliate... that girl, in turn, hung herself in her bedroom. But just like everything else in life, technology comes with a price.. and with personal responsibility.
I liked the approach you took with this, using God to help prove your point, I think it was very clever! =)

I'm a christian, I didn't find your poem at all offensive but that article sure was!!! What bullshit. No wonder ppl don't want to believe in God and are ashamed
.... Sigh, just when I thought I heard it all.... good write Mark, I laughed but I laughed even harder after reading that article.... GEEZ

A "God computer?!" Oh, please. If there were such a thing it would kill us all. We are far too subjective to interest such a creation. I like the God Himself idea a lot better. Good poem! - ocerus

So true.
There are those things in a decent society that rules must be obeyed. However we all become too judgemental of the things we do not understand. We fail to realize our own shortcomings while pointing out others. This is a fine essay on that.

Reminds me of Bruce Almighty, giving everything to all people with a flick of a button...yet there is always something in a machine that can literally make it the bigger mistake...I like the idea's in this. Love, C

HAHA Great, very humourous. It sums up the crap that is found on the internet all the time.
-
fine and amusing little parable. I chuckled as I read this. Ironic that the earliest form of the internet was developed by the military, and its first widespread popular commercial use was for porn (or so I've heard).

Your poetry is amazing!
I love this thought-provoking wonder!!! I'm so glad I stopped in today to read this masterpiece, and I look forward to the info on the links your muse has provided here.
Thanks again, I think you're a great poet!!!

Well the unexplained mysteries article did my head in. And as for the poem, it is funny! As with all things the internet has been corrupted by the bad for their own evil purposes. But in my life, I certainly find the internet a blessing, I love being able to access information (great for recipes) and having access to some lovely online friends is wonderful too.

Alright, so I'm glad for your author notes, because I really didn't agree with you at all initially. God knows every detail about the future, and Jeremiah 29:11 says that He has everything planned out.
But, I also see the general point you're trying to make. We do have this tendency to take things that should be used for good, and then twist it into evil. -
"The treasure of the wicked is laid up for the righteous." Maybe some good will come from the internet...
Have to go read your linked stuff now. buy! -
Nice. I do get the humor. And, it is an accurate description of the crap that is commonly found on the internet. A lot of what is on line really does remind me of the graffiti found on a bathroom wall.

Humm
Not exactly what I thought it would be.Seems a sad view of humanity that is all to true. -
ok.
I don't really understand your viewpoint, but I don't have to, do I? The poem is probabley true to how he, ( being God ) would view us, not only on the internet, but in life, as a whole. Sad you don't believe, I do.
The poem was good. hijacked by monsters, sophisticated bathroom wall, excelent lines. one more little personal note, check this out, it's in reference to what you wrote. I think you might find it relates to your poem line. Gen.11:6 because they all spoke one language, "nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them." I'm not trying to preach, I just thought you might relate it to your poem.

I like it. I am a satanist so I'm not looking at it as thoe you were slamming "God" or anything like that. I saw that you were saying that the internet could be a great thing to bring people together but has only become a place of hate and smut. Very good job with this
