I fell down, hurt my crown,
Shoved aside by finite hate.
Saw my worth as less than the ground,
Heard it in Satan's prate.
Then You said, "Get up again,
Show another some love.
Let My life absorb your sin,
And be borne above."
I dare You to make me love You.
Give me my reason why I live.
Tell me, Lord, how You knew
My heart was in life's sieve.
I stand here wanting more
Than this world can offer.
I find I'm wanting crystal shores,
Riches from eternal coffers.
Speak of greater life to me,
Make me see and hear my soul.
Speak of the only truth to me,
Let me hear and do and be whole.
Hold Your hand over my heart,
Clutch it, if You want.
Make it into a work of art,
From this ghost so pale and gaunt.
"I dare you to choose to love Me.
And find your reason to live.
Use My eyes to help you see
Way beyond this life's sieve.
"I dare you to love another,
And I will say you love Me.
Give to a needy sister or brother
What I give so freely."
Please tell me what you think

Thank you for entering this poem! It is a beautiful poem about faith, and I wish I could give it the points it deserves, but it doesn't closely enough match the contest requirements. As it was the only entry, I will be closing the contest at this point.

Very nice! Did you mean this to be read as coming from Shepherd Book's point of view?

Since it is meant to be theological/spiritual, yes.
I also allowed for my views to influence it.

Great Write!
Once again, I love your timing, rhyming, & the content of this fine work of praise to Him. There's only one line I find awkward & would like to suggest a proposed change:
Let me hear and do and be whole ~ to: Let me hear, do, and be whole. I think this is a better read IMHO!
I know you're gonna get a trophy for this friend. I love it!

The last part was the strongest to me. Drew me in and gave me a hopeful kind of feeling. The whole write is awesome, but who would expect anything less.

Most often we ask for what is already within our reach--usually those things we cn do for ourselves. Loving God and loving others often seem difficult when they are as simple as opening our hearts.
I know you are one of the most loving and open people I have been honored to meet on AP--actually in life. Your kindness and your love for God are known by all who know and love you. God blesses you everyday, my dear friend. Love, Patricia
