distorted love

your baby girl is all grown up and off to college in the fall
she's got your big brown eyes and dark brown hair, maybe those are the only things you ever gave her

her smile brightens the room and her laugh is contagious,
but you never knew that

her favorite color is purple
and she likes lots of whipped cream on her icecream
the simple things that you will never know

her birthday is in a couple days,
and she will be eighteen
but you wont see her blow out her candles
or open her presents

you gave up seventeen years ago,
I guess you never tried

but did you think she didnt need you,
did you think she never cried

you never tucked her in her bed
or told her she was beautiful

you werent there on prom night,
to tell her she was a princess

she always asks herself, what did i do
why do I feel do disposable,
why cant he care

what happened to a father's love,
yes was it ever there

cause I want that kind of love,
the one i never had
