Mirrored view: from behind the veil and mascara laced eyes

Your culture, it astounds me
Taking my breath away with
All those glaring errors
And all the disgusting
Inaccuracies you see
When you look at me
And who I am to the
Others around me

But don't look now
I can see that you also
Know the ways that we see you
Aren't always the ways you think
You seem to everyone else in the world

Don't be naive
We both can see
The error lies not
With the individual
And how they see us both
The error lies in the hands
Of those who pass on the images
And words that they see of us both

All these invisible filters
Distorting our viewpoint
Skewing our judgment
And blinding us all

Now that I see you
Alone and together this
Is the only way to make our
Plight known

To see for yourself
And not from the media
Those who you trusted
With your mind and
Your soul

Crossing the gaps that
Span across cultures
Feeling similarly
Afraid and alone

So look to the East
And I'll look to the West
Together we'll open
Our hearts and
Our minds

Finding the truth
As only we can to see
For ourselves the spin
That they weave us
Blocking the image
From me to you

Knowing that
We can together
Reach out as together we
Fix these distortions
With our hope and
Understanding

As long
As we stay
Clear of their
Bias and prejudice
The only thing marring
These images between

The glass bewteen us
Merely a screen
Yet so damaging
All the stops
Inbetween

This isn't
What I see
It's only
What they
See, then I
Get that view
Which isn't my own

No forced rhyming made it all worth while. Thank you for this deep piece.
