Evil Louhi stole the Sampo,
took it to her northern home.
Easy living the mill created,
abundant was salt, flour and gold.
The theft went not unnoticed,
by the folk of Kalevala.
Harsh and cold was the winter,
snow and ice give no food.
Hungry were the people,
when they went to Väinämöinen.
Besieged the mighty shaman,
to take back what was theirs.
Agreed to the plea did Väinämöinen,
took with him Ilmarinen and Lemminkäinen.
These three heroes rowed together,
to reach the shores of Pohjola.
During their long journey,
a mighty pike they did encounter.
Caught on its mighty shoulders,
could no longer move.
Jumped in the water did Väinämöinen,
battled long and hard.
Finally the pike was slain,
and its mighty Jawbone taken.
Powerful was old Väinämöinen,
used magic and his skill.
At the end of the journey,
a Kantele the jawbone had become.
The shore was reached by our heroes,
and they went into action.
First they pleaded with Louhi,
to return that what was stolen.
Decline did the sorceress,
told the Sampo would not be given.
Angry was Väinämöinen,
but he had a cunning plan.
The Kantele started playing,
with the help of Väinämöinen.
The song was soft and caring,
made all Pohjola asleep.
When also Louhi fell sleeping,
the three went into action.
Nine locks protected Sampo,
by Ilmarinen were removed.
Lemminkäinen the quick handed,
cached the mill and started running.
Followed by the two others,
the ship was swiftly boarded.
Halfway home were our heroes,
when a crane did squawk.
Wakened were the sleepers.
Full with fury and vengeance.
Big was the power of Louhi,
as she used her magic.
A beast of the sea she did summon,
the strong and evil Iku-Turso.
Suddenly the sea was swelling,
and the ship was near to sinking.
By the board side seen was movement,
as Iku-Tursos head had risen.
Horrible was thise creature,
a sea monster old as time.
Afraid was not bold Väinämöinen,
jumped on the creatures head.
Sword in right hand had Väinämöinen,
and Iku-Tursos ear in the left.
Suddenly there was pleading,
Iku-Turso begged for mercy.
To leave and never disturb humans,
that was the agreement.
To stay alive Iku-Turso agreed,
and never again was it seen.
Angered was Louhi,
that her plan was thwarted.
Used magic to sprout wings,
giving her the gift of flight.
On her back jumped warriors,
evil men of the north.
They rode on angry Louhi,
to catch the ship of Kalevala.
Soon battle was raging,
on the ship of our heroes.
Lots of blood did flow,
before an event quite tragic.
In the skirmish strikes were given,
one hit the mighty Sampo.
The mill was now broken,
and sinking in to the deep.
Neither would get the Sampo,
as it became completely lost.
Scorn left the people of Pohjola,
broken returned our heroes.
This was the end of the Sampo,
the mighty and magic mill.
To never again bee seen,
nor used by any being.
took it to her northern home.

Author notes
he Kalevala is a book and epic poem which the Finn Elias Lönnrot compiled from Finnish and Karelian folklore in the 19th century. It is held to be the national epic of Finland and is traditionally thought of as one of the most significant works of Finnish language literature.
The original work is writen in pentachord and I tried to follow this style in my rewrite.
