Land Of The Desert

Missing image

Little grows in this famished land,
its sad song eerily carried upon the wind

is seldom heard across a land spurned by nature,
as if, destined to be laid bare.

However, an indescribable beauty,
defiant of nature, is evident to those
who take time to witness
what lies before them, yet remain

cautious of the danger this beauty

contrives.

Life survives precariously,
a testament to its resilience,
each day a challenge,
this land of desert

offers safe harbor to none.

A sad song is eerily carried upon the wind,

each verse a warning,

enter this land of desert,
death alone is guaranteed.

    Very beautifully written, Mac!!
I may not live 100% in the desert, but it's just down the road from here; and, you did a suburb job in capturing the desert with this poem. It's well deserving of all the applause it has recieved, and will recieve! Great job, Mac!

Well done! When I was young I drove across the US 4 times with my parents. I remember the desert, it was silent...hot..dry...no tree's...different. I am from the east coast Maryland and it was a different sight indeed. You have captured it well here...it can be beautiful in its own way..thanks for sharing

Wow, quite a write. I love the imagery you have created. For some reason an old song came to mind as I read this: "A Horse with No Name". Here's a link to Wikipedia's article about this song.

I come from a land where there is so much desert..and it is beauty that many never seen..but then beauty always comes with danger..that is the nature of things..
I loved this piece..it was the title that attracted my attention and I am speechless now after reading your words

Deserts are a paradox. Hardy plants, animals, individuals and small societies thrive in them for generations, even ages. Civilizations on the other hand have never conquered them, but have only succumbed. Your poem captures their dangerous beauty that somehow draws the heart while daunting the soul!
