"help me, help me"
the little boy screams
with tears staining his dirty cheeks
he wriggles and squirms, trying to get free
but the weight of his friend
sprawled unconscious across his legs
traps him to the ground
and neither can move
"it hurts mommy, it hurts"
the little girl cries
But her mother can't do anything, she's not there
Only a team of police and rescue workers
Trying to lift the mass of rubble off her
"it hurts mommy it hurts," she continues to cry
"just hold my hand", a stranger says
"Squeeze it tight and it'll be alright"
"I don't know what happened"
the driver explains as he looks at the bus
crumpled and smashed beyond recognition
three children have perished
the others left bruised and bloodied
injured, young, innocent
"how did this happen?"
the parents weep in anguish
"our children were fine when they left for school"
the officer could only shake his head
still overwhelmed by the scene before him
maybe if there were seat belts
the brutality of this accident would've been lessened
and the death of those three children
could've been, should've been, prevented
A seat belt could've saved their lives
