Storm of Tranquility (Story) - Chapter 2

CHAPTER TWO

Athelwolf looked towards Gwalinna.

“About time you woke up. A few more minutes and I would have left you” he said; smirking.

“You should have. We both know you don’t need me.” Gwalinna snapped back. She got up and gathered her things quickly.

When she finished Athelwolf tossed her an apple and they set out into the late morning.

“Athelwolf?” spoke gwalinna softly.

Athelwolf just nodded as they walked. “Athelwolf, will we always have to travel? Is there not a place out there for us to call home?” She questioned.

“Gwalinna you asked that before; when you were just a child, my answer has not changed. Destiny will take you to where you need to be, weather it is always traveling or settling into a home. However my dear, I believe you will see things clearer as time goes on.” Athelwolf replied.

“what do you mean?” Gwalinna asked.

“you will soon see, but for now, you are still but a child.” He said and quickened his pace.

Gwalinna knew better than to keep questioning Athelwolf, he was her best friend, and only family, he always looked out for her. She just quickened her pace as well and followed him.

Suddenly Athelwolf stopped. And jumped on a bolder on a near by cliff. He skimmed the horizon, and then took a running start and jumped off the cliff, falling towards the water below.

Gwalinna sighed, secured her items tighter and then dove after him. Crashing into the water, they both sprang up into the surface and headed towards shore. “Tell me next time you plan something like that okay?” She said.

Athelwolf laughed and nodded as they continued. Again, he came to an abrupt stop, this time he spun in a circle and looked around high and low in the tress back into the forest towards the water in which they came.

”Athelwolf?” Questioned Gwalinna.

“Someone was following us Gwalinna. But it seems that they are gone.” He replied satisfied that they were no longer that being followed he set out again.

Gwalinna, sighed and continued to follow, wishing for once she knew what the day held for them. She never knew, and when she thought she did she was wrong.

“Where are we going?” Asked Gwalinna.

Athelwolf, just pointed to some mountains far off into the land and kept making his way through the forest without a word.

“Athelwolf, What happened to our family?” She asked quietly. He suddenly stopped and looked at her.

“ I suppose you don’t remember do you? You were just a young child when it happened, and me being two years older than you, I recall things better than you” He replied.

”yeah till you get old and lose your mind.” Said Gwalinna laughing.

Athelwolf turned away from her and continued to walk. “Gwalinna, you were just a child playing in the forest, I was out hunting, I came back to find the town burning, I tired to find a way into buildings to save anyone I could but I was too late the flames were too high, and no one was alive. You saw and tried to run into your burning home, but I had to restrain you. Since then, we’ve traveled.” With that, they continued to travel silently.

After a while Gwalinna felt a presence following them, but felt that it was not a threat to her, so she ignored it and continued to follow her long time friend and comrade deep into the dangers of the forest.
