The Raven awaits...
a message of death
To claim the lost soul
and bring it to rest

He listens with patience
all through the night
His orders are final
he takes off in flight

The job is a lonely one
he hasn't a choice
Death needs a carrier
he waits for it's voice

    Reads like a classic - loved this! And even though death and rest do not rhyme , it didnt stick out like a sore thumb.

    My type of writing. I love this. Ravens are actually one of my favorite birds, along with owls. I love the imagery that this portrays. Wonderful. Good luck in the contest, but to me, this is gold.

      Thanks!! I love Ravens too...have you read the book "The Dark Half" by Steven King..they made a movie of it too...it's one of my favorite books! Ravens are dark creatures filled with mystery...I believe their purpose for being here is to wait and watch until they are needed to guide a soul to where they are suppose to be.
