Looking The Other Way

    Long hospital nights working security
can prove to be a fright.
Patrols, fight for patient control,
and postings just to name a few.

Fifteen floors to patrol in the tower
and I know each floor by heart.
  Doctors and nurses running around.
Patient's alarms are a sound'in.
And all these things can give a person
quite a start.

But the thing that ticks me the
most is when you know medical staff
has seen you and acts like you are
not there.

They look up and you smile and
say "Hi."
They look back down and don't utter
a word.
Ya know, I'd almost rather would
be flipped the bird!

Dude! If ya have to at least
make funny faces at me, then I'll
know you acknowledge my greeting,
but for crying out loud, don't
look away and act like I ain't
there!

So now you know one of the
things that irks me the most.
I call it the "I am better than you"
Syndrome.
I just wish they wouldn't look the
other way!

That is just their way of letting you know they aren't as mature as you. You are a wonderful person, my friend. Never forget it.

I hate that even where i work. Some people just know they are it. This was a great piece and you put your full emotions into it and i congratulate you for that. It must be hard having to patrol that building and seemingly not getting any thanks from the people whom you would think would appreciate it most. Well done.

There are some things we have to just brush aside to get on with our jobs, no matter how much we wish we could stop and think about them.

Aww, you're so right about this. I know how most people treat security guards. Although their jobs can sometimes be very dangerous, they are given no more respect than the man in the moon. Bless your heart, I'd acknowledge you. Thanks for putting in your entry, Sweetie. Mom
