They could make a difference

She drove them home from school,

her girl and a friend, both teens.

They chatted, laughed, like every day,

blond hair, looking like queens.

She had to stop to turn off left,

waited for an opposite car.

Little did she know this Mom,

that death was not that far.

A truck came rolling down the road,

he had to catch the ferry.

Stepped down his peddle, gaining speed,

the way he drove was scary.

He didn't see the car at all,

bumped into it from the rear.

The girls were launched like missals,

they weren't buckled up I fear.

So yes, in busses that drive kids,

those seatbelts should be in.

They could make quite a difference,

when there's a life to win.

This poem is a wonderful way to get a much needed point across. Thanks so much for posting in my contest.
    • You're welcome. We don't have schoolbusses like yours in our country, but what I wrote happened some years ago not far from where I live. The ferry isn't there anymore, they've build a tunnel of 6,6km., but it used to be the most dangerous road, because all those truckers were speeding to get to the ferry in time, or they had to wait an hour.
