Frustrated Wisdom

(A Tribute To Walt Whitman)

             Please Read Authors Notes

A blending of mind and soul
Enlightenment from within.
So full of love in his life
he was blind to moral sin.

No words could he capture
to describe his blissful state.
Though he tried all his life
mind to pen could not relate.

Still, it doesn’t lessen the beauty
of the lines he’s written down.
The spectrum of emotions evoked
is most certainly world-renowned.

The depth of his rich character
left indellable marks on all he met.
He shared his joy of love for life
without pause or a single regret.

History will always remember him
as a laureate, of the written word.
Sadly he could never translate in pen
the message from God he heard.

Author notes

I believe that Walt Whitmam who this poem is about, as well as
Sir Francis Drake AKA “William Shakesspear” lived in a state of enlightenment for a wile. I also believe it is reflected in many of their writings. To us, they were works of litterary genius! But for them, they were a series of failed attempts to describe what can only be called the universal word of God! Which can not be translated into the word of man. Still I am greatful and deeply moved by their glorious failures!

You've done a wonderful job with this and conveying exactly how you feel about Whitman (and Shakespeare as stated in your notes lol). Perfect rhythm and flow... a most fantastic tribute to the man!

It's always nice to read from someone who understood poets of old. I myself vagely understood them. Great job with this poem.

A wonderful tribute to a good man. You did a great job with the rhyme and flow of your poem. Every day I learn something new. This is a well written history and tribute.

Thank you very much for your entry.

Walt Whitman is one of my favorite poets and is a big influence on my writing style, so I'm glad to see someone pay him tribute here. It's interesting, though, that you wrote in a style that Whitman almost never wrote in... tight, rhyming four-line stanzas. Your take on his poetry is interesting too... he was never able to quite put into words that ultimate truth, something that probably every poet struggles with. Good job and thanks for entering!

    Frustration

is a common trait in the poet. It resides in me. To try to capture 'great ideas' and give them life on paper is a creative process that has frustrated every writer that has ever lived. I've come to realize if we ever succeed that we are done.

That is very deep and profound. The author notes are just as good as the poem.
I don't like to speak for people, but I suppose you and I probably feel the same as these literary masters. Most people love and enjoy my work, however, it's just my life and words in poetic form.
    Great poem, thanks for entering.

I love the way you write it to where I'm pulled into the poem and trying to figure out who or what it is your talking about until I get the the last stanza, anf realize your talking about a writter...
    Great writting.

I do not agree with authorial assertions

but your poem is good. Specifications met. A spiritual poem delivered with some intellectual prowess and, of course passion.

    One step, up
    and now
    upon that level.

You went there. You absolutely went there. Thank you. This is intelligent and reflective of those things that can only be miracles. True miracles are those things that "work" without explanation, like perfect verse - from nowhere or something even as common as a
    sunrise.

Words from God are spoken to the heart and when the spirit moves within, expression is nearly too grand for our mortal minds to handle.

Wonderful entry and spot on to this prompt. Thank you for a splendid entry. Best of luck in the judging. ~Pamela
