deepest pit

my life seems to have no lights

the darkness surrounds me
pulling me down farther
farther and farther

into the darkest pits

my feet have walked

my hands have touched

my soul has bled

my heart has torn

my tears and my fears

all find me huddled

in the deepest darkest corner

i feel overwhelmed

suddenly i am blinded

by a flash of light

i hear a sweet song

to my feet i stagger

following the light

and the sweet song

my eyes begin to adjust

as the light get brighter

i walk my way out

of the darkest pits

as the light gets brighter

my fears drop away

one by one

i will no longer wallow

in the deepest darkest pits

so many will be able to identify with this falling into the pit feeling - but i am glad that this poem ended on an uplifting not!

    Beautiful inspiring prompt!

You did a great job with your take on it. I like the form that you used and the description of the inner self. You got it right with what happens to one who is exposed to the light.

    Wow!

This gives quite a sensation when being read. I can feel the darkness creeping in as I sink farther into the poem! Lovely! My absolute only thought is that I believe eight lines down should be "bled" rather than "bleed". *s* But I was an English major!

    Outstanding

I love your take on my quote, I was hooked from start to finish. Good luck in the contest.

    I particularly liked:

    "i walk my way out
    of the darkest pits
    as the light gets brighter
    my fears drop away"
