when winter thaws away and fresh life springs
to greet the eye and rouse a sleeping soul
return heart's warmth which ice cold winter stole.
Polygonatum, the Solomon’s Seal
in spring’s warm air arched stems of white bells peel
as ovate leaves stand paired as bride and groom
pledging vows of joy which lift day’s grey gloom.
Polystichum Setiferum’s parade
lifting lime architecture from the shade
soft shield fern’s moss fronds grow in moist loam
safely carpeting small creatures' home.
Polygala’s pink, white or baby blues
treat eyes to full feast of the finest hues
as caterpillars munching, crunching feed
silent metamorphosis with speed.
Polyanthus petals steal seasons’ show
lighting darkened stage with velvet rainbow
Mother Nature’s polychromatic gift
for man to nurture, not destroy too swift.
From birds or bees to spotted Lady bugs
skilful spiders, worms, snails and slimy slugs
each acts valid role in organic play
to reward senses with a prize bouquet.
All living things need a safe home, a space
to prosper alongside the human race
fulfilling nature’s original plan
creating paradise since time began.

I love the rhyming and the flowing rhythm, which I feel are very important parts of a poem. Also, the message of this poem I feel is true. Filled with wonderful imagery and literary devices. Thank you for entering my contest. You are a finalist.

If you saw the black widow on my patio last night ... it fought with my broom and almost won. It was gigantic and it needed to find another home LOL.

Your garden sounds absolutely delightful and no doubt you spend many a long hour admiring the fruits of your labours.
An excellent poem that bought the whole scene to life.
Thank you for sharing it with us...Sue

there is noting more rewarding than watching and admiring the true beauty of mother nature in ones own back yard. Each critter plays an important role. It really is very special not only to nurture it but to be apart of the beauty all around you. I think you really do have a special way in discribing so many beautiful things within your poetry.

What a beautiful garden this is, delighful and a riot of colour.
I love spending time in mine...there is just something about the vivid colours and the scent, especially the first cut of the grass. I have to agree with the last stanza...we have got alsorts of wild life in ours. Foxes, hedgehogs, frogs and we have even got the occassional squirrel that visit...apart from all the birds.
This was a pleasure, looking forward to the sequel

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SEQUEL and PERHAPS A PREQUEL, TOO!

The title had me thinking of a pretty flower of another kind called PRETTY POLY but be that as it may - this was quite a colorful and wonderful piece, my friend - that fit the background to a T - and the last stanza concluding this sweet smelling piece gloriously. Isn't Spring a bountiful and euphoric time of the year, my dear? Thanks for sharing this one with me, Sweet Sue!
Peace & Love!
Earl.

Survival of the Fairest
It would be wonderful to provide links in the notes to the different flowers mentionned in this 'springy' composition ... although some might say 'survival of the fittest' corresponds more to whatever 'original plan' may or may not have been etched upon 'intelligent design's' drawing board.

"What joyous bounty Mother Nature brings
when winter passes and fresh new life springs..."
A joy to see I'm sure... certainly a joy to read! Bravo!
