I planned it well
But it wasn't a plan
Just a thought
A guide
A philosophy
I would remain in control
I would stay strong
Stay calm
Remain steady
I would protect you
Make you smile
Make you happy
Love you until we
Would cry and bleed
Love itself
But you deceived me
Tricked me
Tripped me
Made me stumble
Made me fall
In love
And for that
I love you
More than ever
So now I give you a gift
One that I've always been begging to give
To get rid of
For I cannot handle it myself
And now that we must almost part
I leave it with you
My heart is now with you
It's yours to do whatever you wish
Cherish it
Grow it
Hold it tight
Let it beat next to yours
More in love I shall fall
If possible at all
or
Beat it
Stab it
Trample it
Destroy it
It does not matter
As long as it's with you
And you've done what you think is right
And with a kiss I die
I'm happy.
Author notes
Inspired by a text messaging conversation.
Btw "With a kiss I die," was Romeo Montague's last words in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.

The sixth stanza makes me kinda sad... But I guess that means you did a good job on this. It's a nice poem. I always like the poems that tell a sort of story

Good job Greg. You certainly were inspired by Romeo's last words, as well as your conversation. Thanks for sharing; well done.
