Heavy metal concerts and rock shows in the bars
My long, dark hair and the clothes I'd wear would tell people who I am
It's funny how, as I look back now, I ain't that kinda man
I think I'll begin when she walked in and caught me by surprise
Her sweet face lit up the place and I got lost in her eyes
We started talkin’ and I saw she was walkin’ on the other side of the fence
Tim McWho? Kenny Chesnawhat? It didn't make much sense
TRANS-VERSE:
As time went by I chose to try hearing what she held dear
My eyes were opened wide and I realized: I was facing my greatest fear
CHORUS:
This rock ‘n roller’s got a country side
How would I know it was hidden inside
Didn’t know what I was missin’ ‘til the day I started listenin’...
I blame it on Melissa
The more I heard the more it occurred I had found my style
A rockin’ beat with cowboy chic, I just had to smile
If no one digs my new groove it’s all the same to me
Coz what I’ve found to be happy is I just gotta be me
The music’s changed, chords rearranged, but my name remains the same
Finding out who you really are is how ya play the game
Time’s moved on, the girl is gone but the music remains so
It’s a rockin’ heartland groove written in my soul
TRANS-VERSE 2:
From time to time I think on how I was changed that year
This song I hear inside of me is no longer my greatest fear
REPEAT CHORUS:
This rock ‘n roller’s got a country side
How would I know it was hidden inside?
Didn’t know what I was missin’ ‘til I started listenin’
I blame it on Melissa
Didn’t know what I was missin’ ‘til I started listenin’
I blame it on Melissa
Author notes
Fun li'l ditty about a rocker discovering his country side. Think Toby Keith with hard-rock guitars...

This is a wonderful song!!! It reminds me of my fiance. He plays punk/metal guitar, but because of me he now listens to some country. The other day I came home from work, and he was all excited to play me a country song he had just learned. This is worded beautifully, and tells a great story. Hopefully someday it will make its way to country radio! Great job!

Loved the lyrics, and it may not all be Melissa's fault, you prob just have a cowboy hiding in there somewhere. Was it waltz-time?
Good luck in the contest,

Thank you :)
It was a fun time in my life that I sometimes reflect on...We had this hard-rock project at the time, and here I was experimenting with new sounds and my guitarist was shaking his head, "You know, we know NOTHING about country!"
