Forbidden Fruit

I cant, I wont, I shouldn't,
It isn't meant for me;
But the thoughts of what's not mine,
Just won't let me be.

They say that it is wrong,
That some things should be forbidden;
But the simple truth of it is,
From me it wasn't hidden.

I know that it is wrong,
But it really feels so right;
And just like Eve in the garden,
I could not help but take a bite.

I know they'll say I'm bad,
If they know what's going on;
But I won't live by their rules,
And I will not be a pawn.

So let them sneer and fuss,
Let them think what they may;
I'm not trying to please them,
And to them I want to say.

I now have made my choices,
And to me their points are moot;
And although not socially acceptable,
I'm taking have forbidden fruit.

Author notes

This poem was written while I was going through something in my life that some people would consider wrong. Many things these days are considered forbidden. Things that are socially taboo. People who say that don't care about the precedences set by modern society are the muse for this poem. It was written April 8th 2008.
