The policeman walks the beat
keeping protection on the street
saving lives while on his day
being in danger in every way
Fires blaze and the sirens roar
flames burn at the front door
risking the lives of the firemen
that saves us from the smoke within
These are the heroes we have today
real men and women who work and pray
hoping to end the crime on the street
putting out the fires without defeat
Foreign soil, another war to fight
protecting our country and our right
trying to keep the terrorists out
makes me want to scream and shout
The hero's we have in our lives today
real men and women who work and pray
Soldiers, policemen, and firemen too
that come anytime to try to rescue you
they risk their lives helping us live
honoring us when their lives they give
courageous and true, standing tall
helping us when we start to fall
A hero to me means one who stands true
sacrificing their lives for me and you.
Happy Memorial Day.. Dedicated in honor to the men and women serving our country in the armed forces. Also, the men and women who serve us daily.

Bravo
You're right a hero does mean "one who stands true sacrificing their lives for me and you."
The meter and flow of your piece was nicely done. I even enjoyed your repeat line.
Thank you very much for doing a special write for this contest, and thanks for entering and giving your salute our Memorial Day Heroes! You did a terrific job.
