Colored Pens

the heart is most alluring
where epiphany and cacauphony rest
side by side
hand in hand
where I stand in sunlight drenched in freezing rain
plummeting from the skies to soak into my very pores

I drive south, headed into black storm clouds that threaten
the sky above me is clear and blue blue blue
the city before me, laid out in it's neat geometric lines
is smudged and hazy
rain showers obscure everything in my path

The cramping in my belly brings me back to reality
I hurt hurt hurt
and yet, strangely, there is a warmth to this pain
something comforting in the familiarity of nerves on fire

the stereo blazes,

"I wanna run away,
never say goodbye,
I wanna know the truth,
instead of wondering why,
I wanna know the answers,
no more lies,
I wanna shut the door,
and open up my mind."
