One day I asked the God above
What is it that we really need?
For I don't see a joyous day
When all we do is live in greed.
For I have seen the widest smiles
Upon the faces of the poor,
And I have seen brows furrowed deep
In those who think that they have more.
So where, I ask, does true joy lie -
In freedom, fields of endless green?
Or could it be the concrete walls
Of silver city skylines, clean?
The answer was so clear to me
My eyes were opened, shadows gone
When smiles shared brought close the sun
And through the eyes of friendship, shone.
A heavy purse, there is no need
Nor shelves of treasures new and old
Instead seek friendship, close to heart
And hold on tight, for love is gold.

English Assignment.
Was extracted with great difficulty.
But I don't actually mind it.
By the way - can "smiles" be two syllables?

Sometimes the best of work come from the strenuous task of writing for a grade, but I do believe you nailed it. Well done!
