My little friend

I've heard it all before, you know.
The guy who says his angel is his sweetheart.
The mother who says it is her daughter,
The wife who says it is her husband.

Well, for them, it was a special someone,
which is all well and good.
But, for a lonely guy, who wanders lifes roads,
with no real idea of where he is going?

For me, it is you, my little friend.
With taffy brown eyes, a forever smile,
a bundle of energy, wrapped in cottony, dappled coat.
with a tail that wags the meter of bliss.

You are there when I open the door each night,
and no matter how depressed I am,
no matter how tired, or lost,
you dont care.  You just love me all the more.

"Hi dad, let's have a game.  Let's go for a walk.
Let's have a snack you and I, whatever it is I'll like it.
Not interested, well, that's OK, I'll just sit here on your lap."

"Hey dad, wanna' kiss?
Wanna scratch a tummy?
Wanna talk, about anything,
cuz I'm ready to listen."

Suddenly, all the matters of the day are gone and there is a peace.
There is an inspiration for writing a poem
There is a dream already when I fall asleep tonight.
And, tomorrow, there'll be a little friend sleeping next to me.

Author notes

My angel is my little cocker spaniel. She's my greatest fan and best friend.

well written and true to form as they know when we are down and have an angelic way of their own to shine a light of renewed faith in our soul to have reason to shine once again. I know for my own self my 2 cats were there giving me and my family strength when we felt lost when I lost my mom and mother in law exactly 2 weeks apart and my sons bday was right in the middle of both passings. My two cats also never leave my side when i am home with one of my severe migraine headaches. Animals are true angels on 4 legs. May you continue to be blessed and have your spirit shine with the blessings of your taffy eyed pup xx thank you for entering and many blessings always xxx

Aww.. this is so touching and cute! Animals do love us unconditionally and always give us love no matter what mood we are in...

I found my heart ache for your loneliness, but felt some comfort that you have your lovely little dog to give you some joy!

    This is precious!

Heartwarming and oh so truthful. The most faithful and loyal of compainions would be our pets. I had to put my cocker down last year, and though we have 4 other dogs, she was our baby. After 16 years of loyalty and friendship... I really miss her.

Love this, definitely worth the read.

Oh my Lord....I just fell in love with a poem.

This was beautiful....heart-warming and so very relatable...The love of my life is a 125 lb German Shepherd...He is 4 years old and I can not even imagine life without the most loyal, loving, honest companion I have ever had.

No matter what mood I am in, no matter how bad the day...he is there....reminding me that his life revolves around me. He is also my biggest fan and best friend in the whole world....

I loved every line of this from the first to the last...my smile is wide and this is what brought it on....so thanks. Good luck in the contest...you'd get my vote. (although I totally doubt they are taking votes, lol)
