Standing in the chilling breaking waves
I found peace.
The insistent undertow pulling at my ankles, drawing me further into deeper water, only serves to remind me of my strength.
Determination keeps me nourished enough to resist.
My mind’s eye painted truth
and the answers
on a tired deserted stretch of sand.
The evening sun caressing the salty horizon
while retired seagulls sang their retired song.
Anticipation filling the body—hold your breath—
that perfect wave eternally timelessly out of sight…
Sand dunes poised with obligatory aura,
“No trespassing,” signs barely given a second glance.
The firecracker waves explode into white foam,
and defeated drag themselves to the sand soaked shore.
Forgotten lies the wave upon the back of its usurper.
Sometimes greater but always bringing new hope.
Long lazy lackadaisical shadows line the shore at dusk.
Still the waves break.

great work! -
Wow. This poem is brilliant. I especially love the dreamlike way that you describe the beach. The more you read, the more you imagine standing on the beach

Great Imagery
This is a unique imagination so very well written. Even though life is so difficult, hope does come but life still happens, like in last line, Still the waves break. Yep I'm still alive even though I hurt so bad I feel like I'm going to die. I wake up and precious people like yourself give me smiles and beautiful poetry to read. Thank you for entering my contest and best of luck.
Many Blessings
God Bless

that was very cleverly done....
and so very true...when the waves of life seem to crash
around us...remember the courage of the sea...the tides
may break upon our shores, but are withdrawn in great
force, bringing waters of renewal from the depths..to
remind us of STRENGTH and new hope.
well written!
ears/Seattle many pearls in this poem!
