i forget
the taste of fever
stammering on my tongue
&
i forgive
how you would impose the sun
on my eyes.
you
will not have taught me
grammar stew
with a tinge of choleric
desks.
it is
by candlelight
during power shortage
&
by how much you
wanted
the sarcastic way i
nightfell your english and religion
that i remember you.

You may or may not someday read this.
I'll remember you by how you made me feel you really cared. In spite of other things.

I appreciated reading this piece of poetry, its depths, your original descriptiveness and especially " the hat of dependency" Memories may be affective or effective, your piece reminds me of my own ability to sieve the warmth from memories made with someone who I believed cared equally, maybe his love was an illusion woven but until the cold light of the day when the truth dawned we had moments treasured within memory, omg, forgive my rambling please.

Do we really feel feelings or do we simply remember feelings we've had before and apply them to current situations? Feelings and memories are so intertwined and both have little to do with historical fact.
This poem reminds us: we are what we remember.
Excellent.

"Do we really feel feelings or do we simply remember feelings we've had before and apply them to current situations?" Wow great question. I think we do feel feelings, but they really are based on past feelings too... a bit like perception
lol. But yes, everything in the human mind is closely entwined... Can't separate one from the other. as much as I'd like I couldn't try to answer your question in less than a huge comment
Thanks a lot for your insightful words

Sometimes remembering is more sweet than the moments we lived in them. I am certain you are someone that will always be remembered. A beautiful poem.

I'm sick and feel like shit and can't quite articulate how much I love this. It's an excellent take on the prompt you were given, and how true it is! I still remember poems I read when I was eleven for that exact reason. The first half of your second stanza seemed weak to me, but this was great.
"shared
as if the world
weren’t a thin slice
of green paper"
I love this, Diana. So much.

I've had that exact quote on my page for so long. It is indeed one of the most profound things ever said and your poem reflects it so very well. It is never in the "what" but in the "how" - my personal credo in life
. In the end we are all memories and we have a choice to either remember hurt or remember the beautiful. Loved the voice here, Diana - original and authentic as always.
