Dog Problems

Missing image

I've been trying to teach my dog
How to speak, lay down, and beg.
Not only does he refuse to learn
But his favorite bone is in my leg!

0 It's been a long time since I've been around a puppy. Those in the picture are adoreable. Charlie obviously knows a good chew toy when he sees it!

    Love it!

I had two Siberian huskies that were the most incredibly loving and loyal dogs, however "training" was a conspicuous soft spot for them. To wit: (in dogese) fetch the stick? What are you kidding me? You threw the stick you go get it!

    ...fetch the stick...as if...

I loved this Mark, they look adorable.

      Ferg,

You should talk to natasharv about Huskies. She's having similar problems with hers. They must be particularly headstrong. lol Some dogs are just too proud to fetch. My dog isn't. Fetching is the one thing he does really well. It's just giving it back that he has a problem with. I have to chase him around. lol

Hope you're having a happy 3-day weekend, buddy.

LOL - I think you may be the first person to win a humor contest with a poem comment. That is hilarious. You are a crack up, my friend. Thanks for the laugh. Hope you're doing well.

    So cute.

Like Jethro trying to teach Duke how to fetch, those puppies are too adorable. Well if it is any consolation at least the dogs will learn sooner or later where their bone is. That is if they do not have you fetching it.

Oh!! so cute!! When Rupert was a puppy his fave bone was the legs of dining room tables and chairs, lucky he grew out of that. Is one of those dogs your dog??

Rupert. lol I love that name. The dog on the left is mine. His name is Charlie. His sister is on the right. We called her Libby but we couldn't keep her because we didn't have room or time enough for two. It killed me to give her away but some friends have her and we can visit. She's happy and gets a lot more attention there than she would have here. I take Charlie with me everywhere I can, which would also have been hard with two big dogs. He's a handful all by himself, and still full of mischief. His favorite thing to do is pull all the seashells out of my rear garden and distribute them around the lawn. (I scattered hundreds of seashells on top of the white marble chips that cover the ground. I figure if I can't live at the beach, I'll bring the beach to me.) No matter how many times I tell him not to do it, he does it again. I think there's a battle of wills going on here.

Charlie likes chewing on wooden furniture, too. He spent the better part of one day gnawing on one of the legs of a wooden ladder and it's now pointed instead of square. It's not quite as stable anymore, either, needless to say. One pointy leg kind of detracts from the structural integrity, you know? lol Ah well, his love bombardment makes up for it all.

Haha. Do you have any recommendations for making a dog understand that coming to his name is not optional? My dog is selective about when he listens. He'll turn around, look at me, wag his tail, smile as if to say "I can't hear you!" and keep running... gotta love huskies..

Ah, but you have struck upon one of the greatest mysteries known to man. All dogs do that, I think. (Okay, maybe Huskies more than others.) I don't know the solution, I'm afraid. My Charlie doesn't do anything in under three commands, and the third one usually has to be loud. Just like kids. Thanks for the read.
