a Royal Danish

O, here lies poor Hamlet, in doublet and hose,
immortal his words, tho’ his frame decompose!
In seeking for vengeance, he innocents slew -
then dire friend, Laertes, envenomed, felled two.

Very creative...from choice of character to eulogize to the clever pun in the title. My only suggestion, and I think it's a bit picky (so take it with the proverbial grain of salt), would be to make the lines iambic pentameter (more Shakespeare-ish). Great diction and rhyme.

Thank you, BellaD, for the great comment. It rather wrote itself once it got going Excellent suggestion though, which I will "salt away" for later! Many thanks!

Great write! Sorry to say, I don't remember enough from High School English class with Sister Seretina to give a well considered critique of this headstone. I find it quite funny, though. Love the title - I was drooling for a danish pastry when I came across it on your page!

    well done!

You are the first person to write a headstone for Hamlet in my contest. Most people find anything that has to do with Shakespeare a challange. I actaully made Hamlet a choice in this contest because I wanted to see how many people would take such a challange. I'm VERY happy that at least one person did! :-)
Your headstone is remarkable! I hope you are proud of it!
