Dear Star

Missing image
Bright star O twinkling star, watcher of the night,
Looking down upon me, I’m always in your sight.
My never failing friend, Always giving me your light,
A brilliant blue you’ve always been, shining with all your might.

Throughout the long day when time can't seem to fly,
I sometime miss you friend, staring at the sky.
But once dusk has come, you’ll be there standing by,
And even when the clouds are out, to see you I will try.

But now my friend I’m getting old, no longer can I play,
How many days I have left I cant begin to say.
But still at night at you I gaze, watching while I may,
And when I'm dead and in the ground, shine for me I pray.

Author notes

This Poem was another one one written out of boredom. my muse was looking out the window at the night sky and seeing a star I use to watch a lot as a kid. It always got my attention because it always seemed to pulse alternating colors. Both a lightning blue and a bright white. Its peaceful for me to just sit and stare at the stars. The photo is of mt favorite star, that star that's called Deneb. This poem was written march 17th 2008.

  • Oh this so trouched my heart

I could see the young child grow into an adult then into an elderly person that never missed a day for the love of the stars and in passing made his last wish upon the stars how lovely this is

  • :D

watching stars is fun... this is a great great piece hun i wish i was able to see out my window...

How wonderful to have your own star! I love looking at the skies too, but my favourite is the moon. This poem is very sweet and it reminded me how as a child I used to dream I came from the moon and that I owned it.
    I love the lines:
    'watcher of the night,
    Looking down upon me,'
It reverses the common idea of us watching the sky and suggests the sky watching us. Lovely!
    I also loved:
'And when I'm dead and in the ground, shine for me I pray.'
This line has a many faceted meaning. It made me think of how people like to leave a trace of themselves on the earth so that they are not forgotten. The trace might be a song they have written, a story, an achievement in sport or science, something to prove they were here. Magic!

    • Its cool everyone at least once in their life has taken a look up at the stars and said how beautiful they are and some of us wonder or wish we could go to these places just to go.
